SINGAPORE, October 8, 2024 – LeadWomen, a prominent organization championing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace, will be hosting its first-ever APAC DEI Summit, titled “Humanity Rebalanced” on October 16 and 17, 2024, at the Asia School of Business in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It will bring together key leaders from government, business, and civil society to address the challenges and opportunities of building inclusive workplaces in the rapidly changing Asia-Pacific region.

LeadWomen, a thought leader in the DEI space, has been instrumental in stimulating commitment toward diversity and inclusion through immersive experiences, high-impact content, and courageous conversations. The organization seeks to align business practices with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, specifically those aimed at promoting gender equality, decent work, reduced inequalities, and fostering peace and justice. LeadWomen believes that embedding DEI into an organization’s culture is essential for achieving equality for all, while also driving sustainable business success.

Focus on People-Centric Strategies

During the two-day event, participants will engage in keynote addresses, panel discussions, and workshops exploring key DEI themes. Topics will include building inclusive workplaces that empower all employees, addressing unconscious bias in hiring and promotions, and fostering leadership approaches that prioritize equity and diversity.

Anne Abraham, Founder and Chair of LeadWomen Malaysia, emphasized the growing significance of DEI efforts in the Asia-Pacific region. “While much of the corporate DEI frameworks have been shaped by North American and European initiatives, Asia is a region of diverse cultures and histories, which presents its own set of challenges. We are at a pivotal point where we need to rebalance humanity and bring back the focus on being human in the way we manage and lead organizations,” Abraham said. She also urged businesses to move beyond superficial diversity metrics and instead focus on meaningful inclusion practices.

Addressing DEI Challenges in APAC

With the Asia-Pacific region’s diverse social and economic landscape, the summit will focus on issues such as economic inequality, bridging wage gaps, and ensuring equal access to education and advancement opportunities. The discussions will explore how businesses can leverage DEI to build stronger and more inclusive teams while contributing to the broader goal of nation-building.

Collaborative Effort for a More Equitable Future

The summit is supported by a range of partners, including PETRONAS, Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), and FIDE Forum. Other collaborators include UN Women, Reserve Bank of India, PwC Malaysia, Women in Tech Malaysia, and more. This collaborative effort underscores the collective commitment to building a more equitable and prosperous future for the region.
